Theme: Sustaining

Illegal dumping is the unlawful deposit of waste larger than litter onto land. It is a particular challenge facing NSW Councils, especially those located around the urban fringes of Western Sydney, Central Coast and South Coast/Southern highland areas.

Sustaining analyses the motivation and cause of illegal dumping and proposes counter measures to restrict the opportunities and actions of the illegal dumper.

Darkinjung Land Council's Plot 9 is a secluded site receiving very little public traffic flow and offenders can easily access the property by vehicle. The current site has no specific use or signage therefore appearing devoid and of no value. These factors combined encourage illegal dumping.

The brief was to introduce preventative measures and systems that deter illegal dumping and add value to the site by keeping trespassers and unauthorized vehicles off the site.

The Mobile Skip - Darkinjung - Illegal Dumping

Darkinjung Land Council's Lot 9 is experiencing illegal dumping by trespassers and unauthorized vehicles. The main issues facing the Land Council are cleaning up the site and promoting regeneration. The issue of illegal dumping is not only limited to this particular lot but other land sites in the Wyong area.

This response to the brief aims at solving the problem of illegal dumping and raising awareness of the issue in the broader Wyong Community.
