Gate & Lock - Darkinjung - Illegal Dumping

Stakeholder: Darkinjung Land Council

Waste is being illegally dumped on Lot 9 due to a lack of effective physical barriers. The main issues identified were:

  • The lock is easily cut

  • The rocks surrounding the area are easily moved

  • There is no way to track who is coming and going

  • Three designs have been devised to counter these issues: The Gate, The Boulder Barrier and the Tracking System.

The Gate A revised locking system to eliminate the opportunity for trespassers to break in via the gate:

  • Cannot be cut using an angle grinder or bolt cutters

  • Cannot be smashed off with force

  • Can only be opened by people who have the key

  • Its cheap and can easily be installed by a local contractor

  • The Boulder

A method of securing the existing sandstone boundary boulders so that they cannot be dragged out of the way by any 4WD vehicle: Utilises the existing rocks Materials used are cheap and readily available and installation quick and easy. As the cable is underground it cannot be seen or cut by trespassers The combined weight of the boulders makes the fence immovable

    The Tracking System

A system that monitors all authorised and unauthorised entries into the property through the use of a magnetic gate system and camera.

  • Activates when the gate is opened

  • Non reliant on the lock incase it is breached

  • Camera is hidden in art poles so cannot be detected or smashed

  • Camera is placed at a distance for optimal view point and has low power consumption
