The Designing Out Crime research centre (DOC) is a practice led, socially responsive research centre within the Faculty of Design, Architecture and Building at UTS. It works with public and private companies and institutions to reduce crime through design intervention.

DOC's current research briefs involve:

  • Design for the improvement of public housing estates with a strength-based community development approach
  • Design that supports Sydney’s late night economies and contributes to improving the vibrancy and safety of Sydney’s night life
  • Design for the development of future technologies for crime prevention
  • The opportunity also exists for successful applicants to potentially undertake casual paid work as a research assistant with our consultancy work, or as a tutor in our popular winter school program.
